GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Two days from Errachidia to the Merzouga dunes, designed for travelers arriving at Moulay Ali Cherif Airport who want to experience the desert without long driving hours. In just 125 kilometers, we move from the Ziz River valley to the sea of sand of Erg Chebbi, including a camel ride at sunset, a night in a Berber desert camp under the stars, and a full day of 4×4 exploration. It is the shortest and most direct route to discover the Moroccan Sahara when time is limited, but it still includes the two essential experiences: an overnight stay in the desert and an authentic immersion into local life — a nomadic family and the Gnawa community of Khamlia. The tour starts and ends in Errachidia.

DAY 1: ERRACHIDIA → ZIZ VALLEY → ERFOUD → MERZOUGA

Pickup from Moulay Ali Cherif Airport in Errachidia or your hotel in the city to begin the 2-day desert tour. The route follows the Ziz Valley, one of the largest palm groves in southern Morocco, with a panoramic stop at a viewpoint offering the best views over the oasis. We continue toward the Erg Chebbi dunes passing through Erfoud, known as the fossil capital due to its rich deposits of fossilized trilobites and ammonites embedded in the local rock. Arrival in Merzouga, where an experienced camel handler awaits with dromedaries at the edge of the dunes. A camel trek of approximately 30 minutes across the sandy ridges leads to the camp. Dinner with local hosts and overnight under the Sahara stars.

DAY 2: MERZOUGA DESERT EXPLORATION → ERRACHIDIA

Breakfast at the camp and return by camel to the village of Merzouga. A full 4×4 desert exploration day takes us deep into remote areas far from tourist routes. Visit to a nomadic Berber family living in a traditional tent near the Morocco–Algeria border — tea, conversation, and a unique insight into a lifestyle that has remained almost unchanged for centuries. Then we head to Khamlia village, home to descendants of Sub-Saharan African slaves, where we enjoy a live Gnawa music performance — drums, metal castanets, and hypnotic rhythms — and share time with the local community to learn about their way of life. In the afternoon, return to Errachidia and transfer to the airport or your accommodation.

– Flights to Errachidia are limited: daily flight from Casablanca, additional flights from Paris on Sundays, and from Marrakech on Fridays and Sundays. Please check schedules according to your dates.
